As seen on TG Daily, there is a fascinating insight into MS branding strategy entitled
Microsoft introduces a search tool for all its search tools. Makes you think about the whole left-hand, right-hand thing...
It seems that they've just announced a product called Windows "Live Search". Which of course is not the same as "Windows Live" Search. Confused? Read the full article and see if it still makes sense.
And once you've finished reading about all the things Windows Live is going to be, reflect for a moment on how not too long ago, .NET was going to be all things to all people. Does anyone remember Hailstorm?
And once you've had enough of that, go read about the 7 different editions of MS Office 2003, and figure out which one you're going to get. All you have do to is choose from:
- Office Basic 2007
- Office Home and Student 2007
- Office Standard 2007
- Office Small Business 2007
- Office Professional 2007
- Office Professional Plus 2007
- Office Enterprise 2007
Then if you're still standing, check out the 5 different versions of Vista that you will have to (as in have to) choose from:
- Windows Vista Home Basic
- Windows Vista Ultimate
- Windows Vista Home Premium
- Windows Vista Enterprise
- Windows Vista Business
And finally contemplate, if you will, the slogan Microsoft are using to promote Vista:
"Bringing Clarity to your World".
So - all clear? :)
